About Lebensbogen Community
Lebensbogen community consists of 17 adults and three children. We offer a community experience of people living together, striving for harmony with nature and fellow human beings. Many ecological and socially forward-thinking features are part of everyday life: sharing resources, solar energy, organic gardening, living according to the principles of permaculture and working in our collectively owned seminar house and café. We hope to benefit from the presence of young people from other cultural and social backgrounds and with their very own specific views and takes on what it means to live and work in a community and in Germany. Volunteers from other parts of the world will help to shape the image of our community as an open and internationally inclusive project.

Weekly working hours
You will be working 30 hours per week in total: 16 hours permaculture gardening and park maintenance; 14 hours seminar house and café (hospitality and food production); 7 hours individual project (free choice)
Community and working language: German
Food and accommodation
Vegetarian and vegan food – though some community members sometimes eat meat. Each volunteer has their own room with en-suite bathroom. Volunteers share kitchen, living room and other facilities with the community.
Covered during ESC
Free food and accommodation, health insurance, pocket money (150 Euros per month)
Placements for both volunteers include helping enlarge and sustain our permaculture garden, maintaining our park, helping with the running of our seminar house for up to 100 guests and the organic café which is a meeting place for hikers and local tourists as well as seminar guests and community members.
Volunteers will also be involved in the „meet the community“ weeks and weekends for people who are interested in getting to know community living or joining Lebensbogen. There will be opportunities to take part and help organise seminars run by members of the community on issues such as Intergenerational Learning, Permaculture, Community Building and a dance festival.
You are free to choose your own project, using your creativity and skills. The project should have either a direct link to sustainability or a clear solidarity aspect (e.g. working with children or young people from the surrounding villages). You can hook onto an existing project at Lebensbogen or the region or start something new. It is a great opportunity to try something unrelated to your work experience and to expand your individual skills.
Social life and community activities
The community has a lot of events and rituals which we welcome you to join and get to know the people living with you. Singing circles in the tipi, birthday celebrations, dancing in the living room and spending time around the camp fire, yoga and mediation or evenings playing board games or table tennis are opportunities to participate in community life. You are welcome to join our weekly meetings and weekend intensive sessions where we deepen our connection with each other with methods such as e.g. community building. You will have the opportunity to regularly reflect your activities and talk about problems with your mentor in the community and an outside mentor as well. The socially and culturally diverse city of Kassel is under an hour away from our community either by car or public transport.
If you are interested in joining Lebensbogen community from April to October 2021, please contact Mona Bricke, our volunteer coordinator: email@example.com. Please include your CV and a motivation letter.
